Growing up on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx, Terence's mother instilled in him a desire to serve others. She was a veteran Nurse Administrator from Trinidad & Tobago who founded a successful GED program for pregnant teens in the northern section of the Bronx. Due to his mother’s example, Terence recognized and answered the call to serve others through education. Since high school, he has educated students whose stories are similar to those of the immigrant families of his Bronx neighborhood. He began teaching professionally as an English teacher for 8 years, serving school communities in the South Bronx. During that time, he also mentored new teachers as they journeyed to connect with and guide the young black and brown students in their classes. Following teaching, he became an Assistant Principal for 3 years and then Principal for 10 years of a high school in East Harlem. There he sharpened his abilities to lead with compassion, trust, and urgency, creating fertile ground for innovation and achievement for both the students and the adults who educated them. He developed systems for empowering leadership teams, building communities of learners, and helping new teachers and students become leaders in their communities. In his new role as Founder and Head School Leadership Coach for PrinciplEd Development LLC, Terence continues to answer his calling to serve as an educator, while helping new and veteran school leaders create systems to sustain their energy, joy and student success.
